Sherv hung up the cleats, and bailed on the crew. Backed up as Lacasse, said I’m through. Jeff said fuck it, sent himself down, self-relegated, gave up the crown. Draft day hero, waiver wire crimes, bad trade offers a thousand times. New blood coming, old scores to settle, 26th season, foot on the pedal!
Pod Fodder, yeah, that’s the name, football bullshit, I same damn game! Rod & G, wildin’ out, tune in, or get the hell out!
Word up, Pod Fodder, year number two, new season, same dysfunctional crew. Rod & G, signing off. Peace out. Don’t call!
[Laughter]
Oh, man. Pod Fodder are back for a new season of everybody’s favorite fantasy football podcast, Pod Fodder! Rod & G coming at you. Oh, I’m pumped! I’m pumped! And, uh, it’s been a while, but if you’re listening at home and you forget, do not forget, we are—we don’t do this for free, we got to pay the bills.
So today’s pod is brought to you by our friends at Dick Trickle’s Trickling Dicks, your trusted home for peeing fountains for over 25 years. At Dick Trickle’s Trickling Dicks, we carry all the classics. We’ve got, you know, those baby angel-looking things peeing. We’ve got those serious-looking Roman guys that are all ripped, that are also peeing. And if you’re thinking, "Well, I’m more, you know, I’ve got more of a modern decor going on at my house," uh, we’ve got a stone statue of a woman dressed in 80s business attire, and she’s got her skirt hiked up and she’s squatting down, and she is also peeing.
That’s right, we’ve got it all at Dick Trickle’s Trickling Dicks, so stop in today to get your next peeing statue and thank you very much to our sponsors this week and thank you to my co-host, who it is so good to look at and see recording again today, G, how you be?

Man, it feels so good to be back here on this mic. Haven’t plugged this mic in in a minute. Oh, man, so good to see your face. If you—I don’t know if we’re releasing video or not, but this, man, has a beautiful mustache. Just an absolutely stunning mustache that Rodney’s sporting right now. Um, and and it’s the first thing I noticed, but it’s just good to be back, man. Having the first week of the season, I sat down on my couch, I drank some 8% beers, and I just watched football, and then I had to wait till 8:20 to watch the Giants game. Well worth it. Got the dub. What a what a week. How you doing?
I’m doing great. Let’s let’s pause for a second on that 8% note. I I didn’t realize the Giants were the nighttime game when you were drinking 8% beers. That is a—that’s a move. That’s a commitment. I don’t I don’t know that I would have made it.
I don’t I didn’t I have always have something to do every single day and night and schedules are packed. I literally had nothing to do yesterday, it was fantastic. So, I said, you know what, start with a double IPA. I I tone things down a little bit throughout the day and then, uh, yeah, at night I fired up a 9% uh pumpkin. So.
Hell yeah. And, uh, I think it was worth it. And, you know, spoiler alert, uh, it was a great game for the Giants.
Sure was. And you, man, you you got a kids kids’ birthday party, man. How’d it go?
Yeah, we were, uh, had a small bounce house in the backyard, uh, had some beers going, had some pizza going. Uh, overall, good time, kid had a blast, that’s all that matters. I had a bunch of beers, that’s the second thing that matters, and the Jets won, third thing that matters.
That’s three good things.
So, uh, I guess before we dive into the pod, you know, it’s it’s going to be a little different of a pod this year. A few a few changes as we grow, as we evolve, as we as we figure out what we’re doing. Uh, so I thought we would hit some of those things off the top. And the first is that this episode is fully sponsored, but we don’t have the manpower to be out there recruiting businesses to sponsor our show every week, and that’s why we need our listeners to start to get us some ad copy.
True. Yeah, what we need here is we we really need it. We need the help. We need people to submit ads. We just it’s tough for us to do every week. You got to hop on here, takes time, so what you got? Submit them, right?
Yeah. And, you know, if if you want to go all out, you want to produce something, uh send us the file. Uh, if you just want to write something, you can send us that. We can do readers, that’s fine. But this will be the only episode of the season that we’re aware of where you and I went out and hustled and got us some sponsors. So, we’re telling our listeners if you want to keep the lights on, go get us some sponsors.
Yeah, and we’d like to keep the lights on, so yes, send us everything you got. We will we’ll read them, we need them, and I think it’ll add a nice fresh perspective there in the pod as well, getting getting those new new accounts.
Yeah, they could be great. Uh, other change. So yes, we’ve heard everyone, when’s the pod coming out? Uh, can we do a pre-draft pod? Can we do a post-draft pod? Can we do pre-week season, uh pre-week one? Uh, yes, we wanted to do all of that. We love doing this. Uh, we’ve just both of us have been extremely busy. Neither of us are home very often. Uh, it’s one of those things where I think this year the cadence might be a little different. We’re going to attempt to do weekly pods, but you might have a couple weeks here or there where it’s just it’s just not going to be possible. But we’re we’re still committed to it and when we are doing a pod, we’re going to put our all into it, and and that’s one of the things. We don’t phone it in.
No, we don’t phone it in. Yeah, a couple there’s a couple weeks here where, uh, excitingly, uh, big Rod over here turns 40 soon, so going to see him in about God, maybe 10 days here. Uh, so that’ll be a that’ll be a fun time. We’re going up to Myrtle Beach to go to the Dirty Myrtle. Uh, hit up some breweries. Can’t wait. And then in a couple couple short weeks, actually less than a month, I’ll be flying to New Orleans to spend some more time with Rod as as we, uh, as we we we celebrate, uh, our our college roommate, Ryan’s getting, getting married.
Getting married, indeed. Cannot wait. Start working on my speech today.
Oh, man. How’s it going? When are you giving this?
That has changed 17 different times, but I think it’s finally locked into the reception, which is more appropriate because like seven F-bombs in the ceremony was going to be awkward. But as more people at the reception, or I guess, uh, at one point it was going to be at the welcome party or the rehearsal dinner, uh, and that would have been less people.
How many people are going to this wedding?
Don’t know. I think he got it under 150, which was a goal of his.
Nice. Well, you know, I was thinking about, you know, what you and I both been through the the wedding thing. Um, you don’t forget the people that RSVP’d that didn’t show up once you know the cost per head.
Yeah.
Like that’s just one of those things that sticks with you forever. Like you look at that person and you’re like, "Oh yeah, they said they’d be there and they were an adult."
Oh yeah.
Two different two different people did that and you’re like, "Wow, that was it was just lit money on fire. Appreciate you."
Yeah, they’re adults. They can like, you know, I’m I’m a big believer of if you can’t make something, just say you can’t make it. Uh, it’s I no one’s going to care. But the whole like, "Oh no, I’ll be there, make sure you pay for me," and then not showing up, I don’t get it. I uh, I, you know, I I know and it’s been 11 years. I still have the list of people who are RSVP’d and didn’t show up to the wedding and I and I repeat that list in my head every night before I go to bed like Arya Stark did with the ones who killed her parents.
You got Arya Stark dropped on. I didn’t think we’d have that, but it was nice.
Uh, maybe that’ll be a new thing. Who knows? Uh, some other, wait a minute, do you have a camera that follows your face or something?
Yeah, I turn it off, but it just turns itself back on. I think I turn it off once a week and is it a, yeah, yep, there we go, can’t escape it.
Uh, other changes, uh, not just to the pod, but to the league. Uh, we’ve we’ve got some new blood who, uh, made their way up when they, uh, they won their way into the league, and we had some people go down because they got bounced, and why don’t why don’t you tell us?
What a wild ride, though. What a wild, wild ride. So, the, you know, we had this whole dramatic, uh, ending where it was like, oh my gosh, finally somebody’s going to get relegated. Unfortunately, it was going to be JP and Becca, who nobody wanted, you know, nobody wanted them to leave the league, but them’s the rules. Uh, but then, in a in a wild change of events, Sherff quit the league. He said, nah, I’m done. Um, and and and left the league, so that brought up Becca, or that brought up, who’d that? I can’t remember. I think that I think that brought up Becca because JP came in that dead last.
Yeah.
So then Becca’s back in, and we’re like, "All right, cool. That’s unfortunate, JP’s down." I think he accepted his fate. He cut up all his shirts live on camera last year. Um, but in a change of events, they wanted to, uh, Jeff wanted his vote to be that he gets to leave the league and pick who comes in. You know, obviously, that got voted down, because that’s just unfair to the person, other people. So that got voted down, and he said he was going to go to relegation, so I, you know, he was in he was good about it. He went to relegation and said, uh, he wants us to win that win that thing and come on back up. So, we’ll see if he’s able to pull that off and be the first member in the history to, uh, get relegated and come back to the league. It’s never happened.
It’s never happened through winning. I mean, Churf, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, technically Churf, I think he got relegated twice, but came back because, uh, Lucas left and, I don’t know, I think Joe Joe was another one, you know, left and came back, uh, through other means because, you know, dare I say it, Chris, I think his name Chris, yeah, Chris didn’t, uh, that didn’t pan out when he won the league, then didn’t come to the draft, and rules are rules, you know, you got to, you got to, got to follow them.
We live in a society that requires rules. We just have to accept that.
Yeah, I mean, can we let’s touch on the Sherff thing for a second, because I know that there it’s been told to me that there are many factors that played into him deciding not to play anymore, but it’s hard for me not to think a lot about the whole Sherff shirt thing, because every time I visit Charleston, every member of this league wants to tell me how much he hates that nickname. I mean, if you’re listening to this pod, you know you’ve had that conversation with me, because I don’t think there’s a single person who hasn’t. And I know that that’s not the whole thing, but I do want to remind people in this league that I’m only there once a year, and we were only doing this pod once a week. So if he’s hearing that nickname 17 times a week, you guys are the ones that are saying it. Just because I came up with a nickname, doesn’t, you know, I like I’m not the only one who’s saying the word shirt. That’s one. Two, it’s just not that bad of a nickname. It was completely believable that you had a guy named shirt, you had a guy named mouse, we’ve covered that before. But two, like, you know, his nickname could have been like small dick Nick or something. It was just shirt. Like, that’s not terrible. And sorry, you know, Nick, is nothing to do with your dick. I just wasn’t the end of the world. So I know there’s other things that played into it, but it’s hard not to think that that played a little bit into it, at least based on the fact that, again, everybody in the league has come up to me at one point pulled me aside and told me how much he hates it. And I just, I could it could have been worse. That’s all I’m going to say, could have been worse.
No, it’s a good I I honestly, I don’t know I don’t know why he doesn’t like the name. I’ve never I’ve never I never asked, but it doesn’t seem like a bad name to me. Like I like you said, like I don’t know, I I don’t know. I guess it’s just something that bothers him, but yeah, I wouldn’t I don’t know. I don’t think that’s why he left the league. I think he’s I think he said he was busy. But, uh, we get we got to see him for only a couple minutes at the draft, too, which was a buster, but, um, yeah, so he’s out now and and, uh, yeah, in the relegation league, a couple new a couple new faces. We got Gus in. Uh, is Gus the only one? Is Gus the only new one? No. Yeah. No. Yeah. No.
Is Gus who I sat across from?
Yeah, he was there for a little bit. He had a book, he had his book that said "Gus’s Notes."
Mhm. And then he had to like drive someone to college or something?
Yeah, his daughter.
Oh, that’s good.
Yeah, yeah, he’s sweet sweet Gus, man. Love that, man. Happy he’s in the league. Great guy. Jeff’s now in the relegation and, uh, and yeah, it’s, it’s going to be it’s going to be an entertaining relegation, that’s for sure. A couple people we missed at, uh, a couple people we missed at, uh, the draft were, were obviously Jenny, um, in in our league. And then, uh, and then always, always sucks when you can’t have Shrum there. He’s a he’s a guy you want to have at the draft, but, uh, he was out of town as well. So, um, yeah, everybody did everybody did well, and in the newest additions, obviously, Phil and Jenny in the league now. I thought the draft was a blast. We had a great time.
I loved the draft. I thought it it could not have worked out better. I know there, well, we’ll talk about the wings in a second, because I got some thoughts there. But, I mean, overall for the price I paid and the amount of beer that I drank, no complaints. The fact that I could sit at a giant table and look left and right and see everybody in both leagues that was there, awesome. Sports all around. Uh, I thought the beers kept coming, like maybe there’s five minutes where like the pictures by me were empty. If that.
I agree, I agree. Tell you what, um, the location was fantastic. Um, but I think before we jump in, um, what’s let’s let’s let’s let’s pay the bills one more time, then we’ll jump in. You cool with that?
Yeah, let’s do it.
This this episode is brought to you by Red Palm Tavern. Are you tired of feeling full? Are you sick and tired of having your hunger satisfied? Then have we got a deal for you. Red Palm Tavern presents Unlimited Wings. That’s right, unlimited wings. Wings for days, wings for weeks, wings until the sunburns out and the earth is swallowed by the void. Unlimited defined here by Red Palm Tavern as exactly 50 wings. Not 49, not 51, 50. Counted by hand, by someone who believes in that number. Hungry for a 51st wing? Too bad. You’ve reached the limit of unlimited.
So come on down to Red Palm Tavern, where unlimited means a very specific, pre-determined, non-negotiable amount of wings. And hey, while you’re recovering from your 50-wing existential crisis, be sure to check out our shot girls slinging the daily special, $45 shots. That’s right, 45 American dollars. At that price, that better come with a wing. Just kidding, you only get 50 wings. You cannot have another one. Red Palm Tavern, where the wings are unlimited, the shots are not cheap, the math never quite adds up.
Uh, damn, it’s going to be hard to ask people to send in ads after one that good.
That that’s now now at least we can we can jump right into the draft because what what the hell happened there?
Oh, my goodness. I you know, I think it’s one of those things where like just being a married guy there looking for some fantasy football, like, all right, I paid what was it? 35 bucks and had a ton of beer. It was great. But, but if you were maybe considered prey to the shot girls, your tab might have looked a little different at the end of the day.
They got Didi, man. They really did. I don’t even know Elsa. Elsa got Didi get Didi good. I those boys down at the end were ordering up shots. All I know is that every time the shots came around, Oscar took three.
Oh.
Um, and I don’t even the dude’s a machine. He probably had like, not exaggerating, probably like nine shots, 20 beers. And by the end of the night, he was drinking like old fashions or something. I saw him with like a mixed drink, absolute machine.
Insanity.
I and I and I got to say, trooper of the draft, JP, man, he did anything anyone asked of him. I tell you, we told him about round 10, he had to go go wear just the shirt with his nipples cut out. And this guy, the gift bag in this, he wore his nippled-out shirt for about 4 hours at a bar, and and when we popped over to Kicking Chicken, he made a servers’ life. I mean, these people were just dying laughing. Hell of a sport. Hell of a sport. Shout out to JP. It was obviously the fun time.
And JP’s family, and JP’s family. Yes, yes.
And JP’s family for, for, uh, for being a part of the text chain.
Uh, yep, had a exchanged some good words with them. JP, you know, JP was deep in thought that night. That’s really what was going on with his nipples out. Um, yeah, I mean, lesson learned. I’d go back there. I’d pay that for the beer and that table, and then the fact that like, all right, we’re done with the draft and we just have to walk down a hall to get to a second spot. Great. Uh, but you know, when the girls come and they’re going to buy shots and you do have Oscar taking two or three and you have everyone on the wait staff taking a shot and there’s still five extra shots and they’re charging you for all of them, know that that’s a bad deal. Like, we we as a league, we have to we have to support each other on our fellow owners and say like, "Hey, you got to know when to say no."
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, like, you know, we the beer started to flow. I will say, for $35, we drank a ton of beer, so I still think the price was worth it. It would have been nice to have more wings like we talked about, but, uh, the atmosphere, it was it was great. It really the night flowed perfectly with like us, you know, we started kind of chill, the place was chill, there’s nobody there. Towards the end, it started to get a little rowdy in there and and the boys started to talk about who they were going to fight at the pool table. It got it got true American redneck draft type situation, which we were looking for. We were looking for something like that.
It’s what we want. And we and we can, I know, we’ve touched on it. We could we could talk about the wings. Yeah, you can’t say unlimited wings and and not have unlimited wings, and if it wasn’t for the fact that I think we drank our money’s worth of beer, it’s it’s probably a bigger deal. Um, I’d like to think that next year they either just like don’t even fuck with saying that they’re going to give us anything like that and just make it a beer thing, or do a little better, but I’ll give them a pass.
Yeah. The guy said that they brought out 200 wings, and I just I can’t There’s no way there were 200 wings brought out. I mean, Nick Nick Kelly had about about 88 of them, but like I mean, I don’t know, there were not 200 wings there. There were two trays. I mean, shit, maybe they were counting the buckets of blue cheese they brought out as wings, but they brought out more more blue cheese than we did wings.
I had six to eight wings, I think, and and I think a lot of people were in that range. So the math is just not there for over 200 wings. I might have had less than six even. It was not many.
Yeah, it was good. It was good. Good to see Ryan Brennan there. We had a good we had a good turn out. I think we ended up with about about 20 people, which was great. And, uh, draft went well, and yeah, it was all in all a fun fun night downtown. It’s good to switch it up and, uh, you know, get already start getting the wheels turning for next next draft. And also, I just I think the draft, it just went well. It’s just such a fun night.
Yeah, and I, uh, enjoyed it. Next year, if I’m able to make it, I have to take a later flight. That was one of the worst mornings. I don’t know how you did that. I truly don’t know how you did that. I mean, you woke up like 30 minutes after Ryan Brennan had an entire night to himself at my house, ordered Domino’s by himself, woke up to a receipt that said 1:15 AM, Ryan Brennan ordered a pizza, three lava cakes, and a chicken Caesar salad gone.
I love the I don’t know what the better what the better touch is on that. Is it the three lava cakes or the chicken Caesar salad? Three lava cakes. Oh, yeah, and it was good. I don’t I think we called it a little after midnight and thankfully opened up, you know, my travel app and saw that my flight was all messed up and and having had several beverages was trying to do the math of what time I need to get to the airport, what time does an Uber have to get me. And somehow it worked, and I wandered through that airport still intoxicated. And I could tell that people could tell. Like, you know, mothers were pulling their children away.
I I don’t know I truly don’t know how you did that. I really it’s it’s it’s remarkable feat that you did that after a night like that and and, uh, yeah, it should be a reward, especially after just a just a night, I don’t know if my face hurt from laughing at Ryan Brennan making phone calls to to everybody and and just like, ah, you’re rolling around on the ground just farting.
I was he was killing me. I couldn’t look up. I was melting into the carpet just laughing and farting uncontrollably. Like it was it was it was so funny, but it was so painful. Um, and and if anyone needs any details on that, you should reach out to Ryan Brennan and ask him how that night went.
Oh, man. Yeah, you really should. Great times.
Really. So, uh, I guess it’s time to do what we do, and let’s see if this does it, ready?
[Sound effect - a loud NFL on CBS horn sounds]
Do some NFL.
Ooh, sound effects. We have upgraded this year. Jared’s now on the on the on the soundboard, so you know things are going to be a little bit better than me doing it, and, uh, I like it. Can you do that one more time?
Yeah, all right. So, I think up next, it’s time for.
[Sound effect - a loud NFL on CBS horn sounds with a heavy delay]
Some NFL.
Yeah, it’s quite a delay. Yeah. I can’t tell when you’re hearing it, so I, uh, was trying to let it breathe.
Yeah. Um, yeah, so so NFL, you want you want me to get my thoughts first?
Yeah, let’s get let’s get into it.
I mean, just absolutely thrilled. I mean, I I I mean, that game last night, look, I get it. I’m I’m a overreactor. I don’t I don’t, but I don I don’t get many games like that. Like, I mean, I got to sit there and watch the Giants just just you look at the score 28-20, fine. The Cowboys scored a little garbage one at the end. Um, but the Giants dominated that game. They went up and down the field, had about four eight-minute drives, they scored seven points per quarter to get to 28, and they just they handled business. When they needed to get off the field on a third down, they get off the field on a third down, that never happens. It’s always the opposite. As Giants fans, you’re learned, you’re taught to just like expect that when you’re lead, it’s going to be gone by the end of the game. And last night kind of felt like like Harbs had had everything under control. So, I was thrilled. I could talk about the Giants game all day. It’s the Cowboys, too. So, fuck them Cowboys. Um, and, uh, it was even nicer to see to to New York a New York Giant and New York Jet reject, Salah and Daboll just absolutely shit the bed. I mean, they looked bad. Like their offense looked bad, their defense looked bad, just bad.
They weren’t prepared, which is the calling card for a Robert Salah game, and a Daboll game.
Yeah. And a Daboll game.
Yeah.
Underprepared.
They weren’t ready to be there, um, but I will say that I’ll take it. Uh, you know, in the last four or five seasons, you know, it’s not like the Jets haven’t won a single game, they haven’t won many. But the few that they’ve won, almost none of them have like you felt like, oh, we’re we’re actually the better team. Um, this one we were the better team from start to finish. Uh, we even had some mistakes. I think we could we know, we left some points out there that we could put on the board, and we gave up a garbage time TD. Uh, only concern is some some not-so-great injury news. Especially I had a lot of high hopes for the receiver, uh, Omar Cooper Jr. Uh, first play, 30-yard reception, uh, feared that he’s got a high ankle sprain. So, not great, kind of needed him. We’ll probably have to make a move, see what we can do to, uh, get some receiver depth, uh and then hopefully he can come back in I don’t even know how long that puts him out, but probably four weeks.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, we’ll we’ll touch on this in a minute, but it’s a tough tough day for Omar Cooper Jr. and Omar Cooper Senior. We’ll get to that later. Um, but, uh, just why we’re on the topic, last time the Giants and the Jets both won their home opener. Do you know the year? Take a guess, or.
I think I’ve seen it. Do you want me to guess or are you just going to say it just?
Yeah, go ahead. What do you think?
Was it like 2009?
2009. You’re correct. Do you know who the Jets beat?
I don’t.
Houston Texans. Matt Schaub led Houston Texans, Jets, uh, Mark Sanchez led, um, and then the Giants beat the Red Skins, what when they were still the Red Skins then, so I’m allowed to say it. 23-17. Um, that was the last time that the Giants and the Jets both won a week one, which is remarkable. Like, I know 2009 doesn’t sound like that far, but like that’s what, 16 17 years these teams haven’t both won? I mean, that’s a long time of of of shitty football, so hopefully we’re both kind of on the rise here and we can we can we can piece together some decent seasons. Um, but to touch around the other other part of the league, hell of a hell of a comeback for the Vikings. I mean, they they they look like they look like absolute trash at the beginning. I don’t know if you caught the beginning of that game, but Kyler Murray, he came out first first passes a Viking and just looked just launched it up in the air, intercepted. Then the second time down just got like lights out concussion.
So, uh, that didn’t that didn’t go well and the only other the only other touch point I have is, uh, I liked the way the Raiders looked. Good to see Genni playing well, um, and I I, uh, I I thought I thought the, uh, the Browns just what do we I mean, we Deshaun Watson is just enough, enough’s enough. And yeah, and yeah, and then the only other thing was the, uh, Lions Saints. Hell of a game. Saints ended up coming back. I tried to I don’t know if you saw, I put in the group chat, but I don’t understand this rule at all. Did you did you watch that? I saw it the game live, too. I like Goff threw the ball, but as he was throwing it, he got hit, but his arm was moving forward, and the pass went backwards, but it’s it’s incomplete because he was trying to throw it forward. No shit, like everybody’s trying to throw it forward. What are you talking about?
Yeah, I don’t I don’t get it. It feels like another one of those just made-up NFL rules that maybe now we’re going to live with going forward, because it’s easier to just say like, "Oh yeah, that’s that’s the rule," than than we made a mistake. So, I wonder if we see that again now. Um, I yeah, I don’t get it. It’s better than that that, uh, JP sent that Canadian football, I don’t understand that at all.
I don’t see how you can catch the ball and kick it forward and recover it and you get a first down every time, how is that even rule?
I don’t know what they’re doing up there. Um, the other thing with the Saints, uh, felt really good about them going for it. I liked that in week one. Uh, you do though, like if you’re going to be fair to the process, uh, you know, had they kicked the extra point and tied, they would be in first in their division all alone. You know, hindsight’s 2020. Um, but in the moment, I wanted them to go for it. Uh, and it was funny. It made a fun comeback. That was kind of right around when, uh, Coop’s birthday party was firing up, so people, uh, were like rushing over because we had it on. Um, and can you hear that? Is it just me? Do you hear a whole spicy chicken mcnuggets commercial playing?
No.
Okay. Good. Why are you hearing that?
You know, it’s the first week of a new season, we got a couple bugs to work out. I’m just happy that isn’t making it into the air, because it’s really distracting. Um, but also, spicy chicken mcnuggets.
Maybe they’ll sponsor us, who knows.
Great. Anything else from week one you want to touch on before we, uh, move on?
Uh, you know, I don’t think so. It was it was it was fine. We got a game tonight. We’re recording this on Monday, so the Broncos and the Chiefs tonight, uh, which I think will be a good game. Um, but other than that, no, pretty Honestly, the only other thing I would say is the the high-scoring games, the Bears and the Panthers, two games two teams you expect defense out of. Holy shit, that was the highest point total in a week one game in NFL history. I think it was like 96 or something like that.
It was insane. It was absolutely insane. Um, yeah, one on thing on tonight, Kansas minus two and a half, how you feeling?
We’re talking bets now or you just like that?
Well, let’s just talk about that one. Since that game hasn’t happened yet, and, uh, there’s a chance this gets out before it happens.
Um, let me be honest with you, I don’t know. Is Mahomes back in like full force? Travis Kelce’s old, I don’t know. I mean, Kenneth Walker’s there now, so you’re going to get a lot of running tonight. I I like the two and a half line with that hook, but.
But I kind of like the Broncos.
I continue to be a bone.
Was it a plus two and a half or minus two and a half?
Minus two and a half Chiefs.
The Chiefs are minus. No, yeah, no, sorry. I’m going to be taking the, I’m going to be taking the Broncos money line.
Just unsure how I feel about Bo Nix, which was my theme last year, and it’s going to carry into this year. Uh, let’s hope it changes.
That’s the quarterback.
All right. So, that is our NFL chat for this week.
Let’s get into some, let’s get into some fantasy while we’re here.
Let’s do it.
Seasons. I don’t know when these things are coming.
Yeah, so there is a different there’s a delay from when I hit it when you hear it, but that’s great. It doesn’t matter. It worked. You know what, let’s try this one, maybe this is the way we want to go into it.
Powered by Riverside.
Nope, don’t want to do that.
Do that. Okay.
Oh, man. All right.
Okay. Well, we’re into it as we work out the kinks. Um, man, the the league, what what do you what did you see? What did you like in the league? What is one thing you noticed?
Uh, I mean, I think we’re going to both have the same takeaway, that there were some monster numbers in week one.
So, monster numbers in week one, also some really shitty numbers. Like you don’t see it very often, like not to not to not to interrupt here, but you’re right. One one I mean, I mean, Royer scored 175.
Yeah.
Keep in mind, we do have, uh, quarterbacks are now six points passing, so that that that helps. But 175 is crazy. Let’s take a look here. Let me click on his roster.
That was as and and while you bring that up, uh, you know, JP reached out this morning to, uh, point out, and it’s something that didn’t even occur to me, I put up 173 and I would have lost to Royer.
Oh yeah, you put up 173. I didn’t even get down to you yet.
And and and it.
You look at what happened with Mouse.
Yeah, and like, I mean, Dustin we kind of knew, another great name, Corum on our Tuten, love love reading that. Also, Royer’s name. What an all-time league name matchup there. Corum on our Tuten versus All Likely Dicker. I mean, All Likely Dicker is a great name. He doesn’t even have that, he doesn’t have Likely or Dicker, but you know what, the name’s worth it.
It’s all you need.
But I mean, I don’t you know, like again, like, why the shit always happens. I’m probably so I’m sitting at, how do you want to do this? Do you want to do this the way we usually do it, or just kind of like chat chat about it and go through some things?
No, whatever jumps out. We’ll just go through some things.
Yeah, I mean, you look at it and I’ll probably end up scoring about 125, and I’m going to lose to Court Wright, who will score about 140. Court had a good it was really, really hard to watch the 1 o’clock games. I didn’t have anybody in the 1 o’clocks, and I had to watch Caleb Williams put up 41, Bijon 27, David Montgomery 27. Luckily, those are the only three that did did anything for him. On my side, Isaiah Likely had 28, as a tight end is big, Scadaboo got about 15. Genty, after that that scare, man, put up 30, and then, uh, I still have Bonix and, uh, Rashiy Rice going tonight. So, uh, very unlikely I’ll win, but I’m just going to hope to put up points. But you look at it, I would have beaten, I mean, Mouse only put up 86, Becca 108, um, 74 for Dustin, let’s take a look at his team. Oof, man, Tuten, Corum, Fonte Smith, Marvin Harrison, Harold Fanin, Michael Meyer. Jeez, that’s tough. I mean, he also had, he got caught up in the Josh Jacobs situation and Brock Bowers, so I think like two of his first three picks were out, which is I mean it’s hard to recover in a 14-team league.
And you know my thoughts on Brock Bowers.
Yeah.
Burn me all last year, when you touch that guy. Feel bad that he also, uh, he went with the Tennessee defense thinking, oh, we’re getting Gino Smith in the Jets.
Yeah, we’re talking about is your, uh, because let me tell you a little story, um, pod father listeners. I talked to Jared maybe like a week ago, and we’re talking about the season and what we were think was going to happen, and he was like, "Oh, my team’s I like my team pretty strong. One of the things I didn’t go after was a defense, because I’m going to go I wanted to get a defense that was like ranked really, like ranked poorly, but they had some pieces that could be good." And he said, "I’m going to pick I’m going to do the Bengals defense because they got some new pieces and I think they’re like under underrated." And then motherfuckers came out, this dude he was he was right. They got 24.5 points, 21 points allowed, four sacks, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a touchdown on defense, Jared, that was really, really, really good research. I don’t know if you just fell into that luck, but you did tell me a week ago that you were getting the Bengals defense and you thought they were going to step up.
I appreciate it, you know, that’s just, uh, that’s just a man adding up some numbers, following his heart, hoping to achieve his dreams.
Well, your dreams have come true, and you’ve put belt to ass there on, uh, Pierce my brown brown lemon Diddy. Uh, you really you really hit him with it pretty good. And then, I mean, again, like look at this other one. Like, I would have loved to play either of these teams. You got, uh, Joe 103 and Jenny 80, just just some really low numbers and some really high numbers, like, and then, and then the wildest one is is probably Higgins and Phil. I mean, they’re at 134 129 right now and they both have a player to go. So, like they both, I mean, Higgins has two players, he has Kenneth Walker and Jaylen Waddle still to go and he’s got 129, and uh Phil has RJ Harvey and he’s at 134. So, pretty crazy week in my opinion. What’d you see?
Pretty awesome week.
You know, uh, one of the things, I like I think we touched on it already a little bit, but Mouse with 86, just, uh, in my relative, uh, short time in this league, I I associate Mouse with big numbers and big teams. I know it’s just week one, but, uh, there’s 86 out of him. And then I didn’t I don’t if we didn’t touch on it yet, uh, last year’s, uh, for me, top draft and then biggest disappointment, uh, oh, he played Mouse, Mike Warren, 134, not bad at all. As he’s interested in that, because I feel like last year on the pod, we focused heavily on Mike Warren, having a good draft, and then the team didn’t materialize. So keeping an eye on that. Um, and that’s kind of what I noticed in this league, but there is another league that we are in, well, a league that’s dark and miserable, and just provides nothing but pain, sadness, and tears.
This is I can’t believe this is happening, especially, dude, I don’t know what the hell happened.
Fucking laugh track. Can’t do it.
Oh, we’re making we made a mistake letting you produce.
Let’s do it, let’s talk about it. I I feel better enough. If you’ve got like a wump wump wump. Oh, I think we got, uh, we can say, uh, hey, how about this chop league, uh, it sure is a lot of fun.
I don’t, it just takes too long, you got to press the button earlier or something. I’ll time we’ll time it out, we’ll figure it out, I’ll get it. We’ll figure it out. Anyway, his name is now Fuck Josh Jacobs, but it was Omar Cooper Senior and, uh, Jared is going to, and actually unless RJ Harvey fumbles twice and gets no yards, then Kevin will get will get relegated or or get chopped. Otherwise, everyone else is safe. Um, but in a in a much more insane, how did this happen? Like, Doug doesn’t have a quarterback, like, Doug Doug doesn’t even have a team, and he’s in the safe zone. Um, and you you put up 92 points in chop, and just, I mean, you’re gone. Week one, week one and you’re gone. Drake May, let’s let’s let’s run let’s get a run down real quick. Drake May 14, your highlights, Justin Jefferson, um, oh, one one thing on the other league, I don’t know if JP and Phil talked, but, uh, Justin Jefferson’s nickname is Chum Nuts again and I know that makes JP proud because he named him Chum Nuts last year. But Chum Nuts anyway, he came up big, he had 27 points for you, but these other guys, Terry McLaurin two, Quintin Johnson two, Deon Stribling got hurt in the first quarter, Daniel Jones back to being Daniel Jones mid-season form. Um, and then Chris Rodriguez, what the fuck are you doing with that guy? Oh, man, you’re bench You’re bench has a you’re bench has a total of three points. Don’t get me wrong. It’s it sucks, but someone like Mouse got chopped first last year, somebody has to get chopped first, and unfortunately it it was you.
It sucks, because I like this league so much. I look forward to this league, and I’m a firm believer that if you can just make it like three to five weeks, you can you can actually start to shape your team. Because what do we have 16 teams in this league?
Yeah.
Yeah, so at best, you have three pretty decent players, or three good players. My first round pick, Josh Jacobs, he’s gone, so that that’s huge in a league where like you only have a small handful of of uh high, you know, high talent players, that that crushed me. Uh, you you’ve got to put some people on there that you believe will outperform their ranking, and for me that was Stribling, and you know what? They looked to to put him in action right away in the beginning of that game, and then he got hurt right away in the beginning of that game. So I think that was like not a bad bet. He didn’t get hurt standing on the sideline, um and then I got I got absolutely boned by Drake May, just you know, three interceptions, completely unacceptable game. Uh, I didn’t expect Drake May to be the best quarterback in the league, but again like this is a league where you just need to not have the least amount of points. It felt like Drake May was a safe bet there, losing, I mean, I had to play Chris Rodriguez at Jacksonville, because I lost that running back and and I was I was fucked. You know, and not to point fingers, because this is on me and some of it’s bad luck and some of it’s bad drafting, but I think, uh, if I recall, I was sitting at my desk and I got a text that said, "All right, we’re drafting in 30 seconds," and I said, "I’m going to a bachelor party," and whoever is the commissioner this league said, "Don’t worry, you’re only going to make two picks while you’re at that bachelor party," and then we proceeded to make every pick while I was at that bachelor party. You blame this on you, you take 45 seconds to make a pick, and you had you have six hours.
Yeah, but do you know what you do like you don’t have free 45 seconds when you’re at a gay bachelor party.
Yeah, you had too many things in your butt.
Too many things in my butt, takes up a lot of time. No, do I think like could I have sat down and done a little research would that have changed things? Well, yeah, possibly, but also I probably if I was in the same spot would have taken a lot of those top picks, they would have been the same, and those are the ones that ultimately burn me. Um, I I think you need more time with the bottom picks, and they didn’t hurt me as much. It’s the Drake May, it’s the uh it’s the it’s the Josh Jacobs, uh that doesn’t help at all. Uh scary Terry, um I didn’t need him to to do a lot, but I needed more than two receptions for 14 yards. Um, yeah, it’s a bummer, I like this league, I know I got to wait a whole fucking year to try again.
I know. It’s scary, this league’s scary, because like you said, if you can stay anywhere out of danger for the first three weeks, you can really turn your roster over decently enough, because I mean you’re you’re I mean you know, come tomorrow, you’re about to drop 17 players, so, you know, there’s a couple guys people are going to want. Like, I’m sure, you know, Justin Jefferson will go for a good penny, Cam Skataboo, but, I mean, even look at like Drake May and and like, like Daniel Jones, I’m sure Doug’s going to pay try to pay a good amount just because he truly doesn’t have a starter next week. You know, his starter he got lucky that Cooper Rush was in there last minute and got him a few points, otherwise he would have definitely like he would have gotten chopped had, um, I mean he would have gotten chopped had he not gotten nine point seven points from from Cooper Rush. And that was a zero, so, I mean, he’s got to spend some money because he has Fernando Mendoza, and that’s it. Um, I have Tom Brady, which I’ll I’ll offer him and see if he wants Tom Brady, but, um, he got me zero this week, but we’ll see what he does next week.
Uh, well, that’s about all of this league I can stomach for this week. I know that we’ll have to talk about it every week, and every week it’s going to hurt, but Yeah, and one thing we got to touch on is, uh, the relegation league.
Absolutely, and you know, I’ve got something for that.
Yeah. That’s all it was. It wasn’t a whole lot.
We’re figuring it out. People are going to understand. They’re going to give, you know, they’re going to they’re going to understand that we’re figuring things out.
They’ll get it, they’ll get it. Um, crazy though, so in this relegation league, um, Cody Royer beat the crap out of Nick, uh 134-103. Um, he’s already done. Cody still has a player. Um, the in the game of the week, Doug ended up winning 145 to 144.06 against Oscar. So Oscar puts up 144 and loses. Um, Benstead just belt to ass for Gus. 159 to 102. Gus has one more player, but not looking good for him. And then, uh, Tuten through the roof is, uh, is is Jeff and Jeff got a Jeff got a W in his first first well, he’s winning and he should win. Uh, Ryan just has Travis Kelsey, Ryan Brennan, and then lastly, uh, Coty Gargone, uh, beat up, uh, Shrum pretty good. 155 to 106. Shrum still has a player. Shrum still has Bow Mix tonight. Um, so first week in relegation wins from Coty Gargone, Cody Royer, Jeff, Benstead, and Doug with the crazy pulled one out of his his bung hole. He texted me in the middle and says he’s going to I’m going to lose to to, um, uh, that wide receiver for, um, what do you call it? Christian Watson for Green Bay. So, he was playing against them, but I mean some big, big numbers. Jamir Gibbs, 31. Josh Allen, 40 points, you know, uh, um, um, freaking Caleb Williams 41 points. I mean, Jackson Dart, 33. I mean, there were some big numbers put up this week, um, which was exciting. I think it was kind of cool to see. That’s the relegation league. And one quick note, I donated a quick $20 to Phil’s Survivor pool, got too freakin’ cute. Everybody basically picked the Jags and I was like, well, the Jags have a pretty easy schedule, so I’ll wait on the Jags and I’ll get the Chargers, thinking they were going to beat the Cardinals. So, me and, I don’t know who’s in this league, I don’t know any of these people, but me and four people are out, and Dustin the only other one that didn’t pick the Jags and picked the and picked the uh the Eagles, who squeaked one out so he’s still in it, but just out of Survivor pool right away, which is fine. Um, but yeah, that’s the league. I think the league really really really had had a good week.
The league is back. It feels good. Fantasy football feels good, doing the pod feels good, it all feels good. Makes you just want to laugh, you know?
On that note, it is time for my favorite part of this entire pod.
Wait, hold on, we’re real quick just because we have to keep tradition alive. We don’t need to do a bunch of them, but give me a game bet and a and a prop. We don’t need to have the numbers, just who you like tonight. I like, I’ll go first if you want. I’m going Broncos money line, and I am going to take, uh, Bow Nix is rushing. Um, it’s probably a little lower coming off an ankle. I didn’t actually look at the number, but I think he probably is going to scramble a little bit. If it’s anywhere in like the 25 range, I’m going to take 25 yards rushing, and I am going to take Rashiy Rice, uh receiving, or receptions, regardless of what it is. I’ll probably take it over six. Uh Mahomes is coming from injuries, probably going to try to dump that ball off a good bit, probably not a lot of downfield passes today.
You are, uh, more versed and ready for this game than I am. But I tell will give I will take the Chiefs minus 2 1/2. Um, I don’t know, they’re at home, Prime Time. I feel like they have something to prove. I think people are a little down on them, and and rightfully so, they’re they’re older. But I like that minus 2 1/2. Uh, what worries me a little bit is a Sean Payton coached team Prime Time opener. Like, he’s usually, um, let’s say the opposite of Robert Salah. He tends to be prepared. But I’m still going to take the the Chiefs. I, uh, have not looked at almost anything else and probably couldn’t give you a prop. But I could tell you that I’ll also want to take the over tonight. And right now the line is 43 and 1/2. Oh, okay. I’ll probably be jumping on that with you. Yeah, so we’ll get we’ll get once we jump back in, we’ll be getting more detailed bets here and there, but you know, we got a little backed up last week and then, uh, want to make sure we got one this week. But is it is it time?
I believe, and if you’re if you’re keeping track and and this is the segment you’ve been waiting for, that it is time.
Did that time out better? That was much better.
Okay. Oh, man, I love the wheel when it’s all filled.
Hey, do I have it all? I think. I mean, yeah, it looks right. And then you and I are here. Okay.
All right, so, uh, if you’re listening at home and you don’t remember how this works, we’re going to spin this wheel. We don’t know who who our guest next week is or whenever the next show is. Um, we’re going to find out with you and then that person is obligated to be on here or do the next draft completely naked. Mmm, love that.
Here we go. Click to spin.
Oh, my. First week we get Dusty!
Wow.
Dusty! Wow.
That’s funny.
That’s great, especially you know, he’s having a bad week right now, but we’ll get him after the second week. He’s either going to be in a real bad spot or one and one.
And on that note, did we do it?
We did it. Hey, look at that 51 minutes, we kept it under an hour for your viewing pleasure. Um, and and next week we’ll have Dustin on. We’ll have to obviously pick night-time one that we can do it so we can shotgun a beer together.
Yeah, I am, uh, we’ll make it work. I’m I leave town Saturday and I don’t come back to the following Saturday, but I’ll I’ll pack the mic and we’ll we’ll pick an evening.
Yeah, we’ll pick an evening that we can we can we can do something.
[Music Outro - Pod Fodder theme song plays again to close out the episode]
